THE winner of this year's £20,000 Turner Prize will be a woman, writes Luke Clancy

THE winner of this year's £20,000 Turner Prize will be a woman, writes Luke Clancy. This became clear when, in what is seen as a direct reaction to the outcry against last year's all male short list, it was announced that the last four in this year's Prize race are all women. It is also certain that this year's winner will neither be a painter nor a sculptor, as all four women, Cornelia Parker, Gillian Wearing, Christine Borland and Angela Bulloch are conceptual artists. Parker specialises in found or collected objects, Wearing is a photographer, Borland is interested in forensic science, and Bulloch's work includes a strong interactive component.

After what will undoubtedly be much fevered investigation and debate on Channel 4, the winner of the prize will be announced on December 2nd. An exhibition by the shortlisted artists will be shown at the Tate Gallery, London, from October 29th to January 18th.
