A Hiberno Norse penny sold for £700 at an auction by Whyte's of coins, banknotes and medals last week. A late 12th century Limerick half penny made £1,200, going well over its pre sale estimate of £500-£700. A Henry VII Irish portrait penny went for £850, a 1943 Irish half crown sold for £600 and a 1916 Rising survivor's medal, presented in 1966, fetched £450.
