Actor Diarmuid Mac An Adhastair has died at the age of 71.
He was best known for his role as Séamus Mhicil Tom on TG4 soap Ros na Rún since 1992.
The character was known for his “loveable rogue” persona that was said to have “tormented the guards and authorities with his tricks, poaching and poitín making”.
He died in hospital in Galway on Friday following a short illness.
He is survived by his wife Máirín and his two sons Caomhán and Diarmuid and daughter Gráinne.
Tribute paid
The cast and crew of Ros na Rún paid tribute to Diarmuid, saying it was a great honour and pleasure to work with him.
“An actor of the highest calibre, he influenced us greatly. He was a natural comedian, with his quick-witted replies, gestures, and how he would place his old cap on his head.
“Diarmuid loved acting and it was a great honour and pleasure to us all to work with him as a fellow actor, crew member or writer,” read a statement from the cast and crew.
He also worked on productions such as Cré na Cille, Páirc Thomáis Taobh Istigh, and short films Cosa Nite and An Leabhar.
