Two Irish films in Standard awards

Irish movies Garage and Hunger have fared remarkably well in the nominations for the Evening Standard Film Awards.

Irish movies Garageand Hungerhave fared remarkably well in the nominations for the Evening Standard Film Awards.

Established in 1973, the  event is one of the longestrunning annual film award ceremonies in the UK and the only one dedicated to British and Irish talent.

Hungeris nominated with Frost/Nixonand Unrelatedfor the best film award. Pat Shortt ( Garage) and Michael Fassbender ( Hunger) are shortlisted with Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon) for best actor.

Lenny Abrahamson  ( Garage) is nominated along with Danny Boyle ( Slumdog Millionaire) and Stephen Daldry ( The Reader) for best director. Garagecollects another nomination in the
best screenplay category,  where Mark O'Halloran is shortlisted with Martin McDonagh ( In Bruges) and Peter Morgan ( Frost/Nixon).
