After two teaser trailers, multiple set leaks, heritage controversies, action-figure hype, and official trailers of the official trailer, the first full-length trailer for JJ Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens has arrived.
With eight weeks remaining before the release of the most-anticipated movie of the year, the trailer made its broadcast debut in the US on the Disney-owned ESPN last night during the NFL game between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Opening in Ireland on December 17th, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and will feature fan favourites Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker from the original trilogy as well as a new generation of heroes and villains and Jedi.
Rumours of another Death Star remain unconfirmed, despite what may seem apparent from the recently released official poster for the movie. Skellig Michael and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) are also noticeably absent from the promo material.
And if the hype wasn't pitched high enough by last night's trailer, Disney announced that it would be providing "unprecedented company-wide on-air and social support (#TheForceAwakens) as well as tying in events and special activities for the day of the trailer release".
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Andy Serkis and Adam Driver. The film opens in Irish cinemas on December 17th. Pre-booking is available now
