We've had a blast with our music contest

My favourite activity was Blastbeat, the mini-music-company competition

My favourite activity was Blastbeat, the mini-music-company competition. We set up a company called Wopah Records, and so far we have been relatively successful, says  Glen Rogers, St Mary's Diocesan School, Drogheda

The members of the company were allocated jobs based on their interests and skills. I was made information-technology manager, which was enjoyable.

Our company is graded throughout the year in different sections that would be applicable to a real business, such as finance and publication relations. We must also compile reports and other business-related documents.

The main event we organised was a battle of the bands, for which eight local groups competed to record a song for Blastbeat Vol IV (an upcoming CD) and a place in the regional final.

Judges from Blast travelled to our concert, in Drogheda, and decided that, because the talent was so strong, three bands should progress to the regional final. Unfortunately, only one got through to the national final, which will be held in Cork next month. Hopefully, we won't do too badly.
