Almost 15 years on, Canada's Caribou (aka Dan Snaith, right) continues to push spectral, special grooves – his latest album, Our Love, in particular, is testament to the man's skills at mashing up beats, moods, and distinctive pop hooks. Get to the venue early to catch fellow Canadian special guest, Jessy Lanza, whose debut album, Pull my Hair Back, was shortlisted for this year's Polaris Music Prize. TCL

The Unlucky Cabin Boy

In 1835, a young man named Patrick O’Brien finally caught a lucky break and escaped his impoverished Limerick to become a cabin boy on voyaging ship. Then it all went horrific. Capsized, starving and adrift after a storm, O’Brien drew the short straw and was eaten by his crew. (Two more were consumed before rescue.) It sounds like an unlikely inspiration for a new musical by Gúna Núa, Mike Finn and the Brad Pitt Light Orchestra – but, then again, so does the plot of almost every musical. Delicious or indigestible, it opens as part of Limerick City of Culture. PC

Artist Gareth Kennedy explores the natural, industrial and colonial histories of Killarney National Park. The show includes a film and photographic documentation of a 10-day green woodworking and charcoal burners encampment, led by woodright Eoin Donnelly with forester Chris Hayes, during the summer. The wood used was the wildly invasive rhododendron x superponticum, originally introduced in the 18th century, which park management still struggles to control. AD
