FOLK
Joan Baez
Vicar Street, Dublin, Wednesday/Thursday, 7.30pm €49.65 vicarstreet.ie
Although forever associated with the 1960s and 1970s version of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez remains the singular doyenne of the US folk singer-songwriter set. She makes a rare visit to Ireland for two shows, and it’d be worth your while paying her a call. Think elegant, thoughtful, emotive and provocative songs from a pioneering, feminist folk singer. TCL
HIP-HOP
The Jungle Brothers
Sugar Club Dublin Wed 8pm €17/€15 thesugarclub.com
These hip-hop veterans have been hitting the road to Ireland with the funk for many years. Those with long memories, for instance, will remember the Native Tongues crew tearing the roof off the Metropole in Cork at the Southern Soul & Disco Festival back in the late 1990s. In 2014, the original trio are back together, which means you get Mike Gee, Sammy B and Afrika Baby Bam pushing all those originals such as What U Waitin' For? and Jimbrowski once again. One for the real hip-hop heads in the audience. JC
