Transition Times: Whether you're a pupil, teacher or parent, welcome to the new transition-year programme, writes Michael O'Leary.

It's a new beginning for me, too, as I take over the role of national transition-year co-ordinator.

To schools that are taking on transition year for the first time, I also wish you the very best of luck. I know this will be a rewarding experience for everybody.

I wish each one of you an enjoyable 12 months of new and varied experiences.

This is a year that will change you personally, socially and academically. Make the most of it.

To the teachers and transition-year co-ordinators who apply themselves so enthusiastically to developing the transition-year programme, remember that the Second Level Support Service is here to help with any issues that arise during the year.
