Derrick May
Twisted Pepper, Dublin 11pm €16/€14
facebook.com/derrickmayday

Detroit innovator Derrick May was one of the first of the generation of DJs and producers to put his stamp on techno's sound and shape. It's nearly 30 years since May's Strings of Life introduced music fans to a brave new world of bleeps and beeps, but the track still retains its essential essence. Since then, he has released a string of key productions (including It Is What It Is, Nude Photo and Icon, though there have been few releases of note of late), overseen the Transmat label (home to hi-tek soul releases by Aril Brikha, Suburban Knight and Stephen Brown) and is still capable of ramming clubs to the rafters.

HOUSE

George Fitzgerald
Button Factory, Dublin 11pm €15

There is another George Fitzgerald, a 19th century professor who has a crater named on the moon after him, but this one is equally capable of out-of-this-world exploits. The Watford native and Berlin resident's tracks over the last decade for labels like Scuba's Hotflush, Will Saul and Fink's Aus Music, his own ManMakeMusic and Hypercolour have seen him pushing bass and house buttons with great aplomb. His debut album, Fading Love, is released next month on Domino's Double Six offshoot.

HIP-HOP

Misha Freshin'
Bernard Shaw, Dublin 8pm Adm free
facebook.com/thebernardshaw

Misha Freshin’ is a new monthly beats night with the intention of showcasing the best Irish underground DJs and producers, both new and established. It kicks off with two stalwarts of the scene, namely Sunken Foal and Jimmy the Hideous Penguin. Sunken Foal is Dunk Murphy, a producer with releases for Planet Mu, Front End Synthetics and Black Acre to his credit, while Jimmy the Hideous Penguin represents Galway’s Community Skratch collective and runs the Alkalinear label.
