Charles Tyrrell lives and works at the tip of the Beara peninsula in west Cork, a rocky landscape looking out to the Atlantic. It’s an elemental place and, although he might be termed an abstract artist, the stark nature of the environment, and the daily and seasonal patterns, inform his paintings in numerous ways. He doesn’t make pictures of things, but the world is there in the work.
