The suburbs get a bad press but, in reimagining the landscape of her childhood, Burns imbues the suburban space with atmosphere and richness. More melancholy than utopian, her paintings relish the less popular aspects of Irish weather: mists, shadows, rain and the edge of darkness.

Paddy Cunneen was inspired to write this chilling verse play by the upsurge of knife crime among teenagers in Glasgow. Loosely based on Homer's Iliad, it presents an odyssey of violence and revenge, when a friend reacts violently to the death of his friend. Rewritten specifically for a Dublin audience, Deadly asks the audience to consider their own role in reshaping a culture of violence. Matinee performances are pitched towards schools, offering a post-show discussion with Cunneen and the cast. Anyone interested in contemporary youth culture should see this play.
