What’s On Saturday: DJ Sprinkles, Dimitri From Paris, Demika

HOUSE

DJ Sprinkles
Bar Tengu, Dublin 9pm €15/€10/€5
comatonse.com

Those who've found themselves falling under the spell of DJ Sprinkles' hypnotic releases, like the Midtown 120 Blues" album, will take note of this date. The deep house alter-ego of transgender DJ, activist and producer Terre Thaemlitz, DJ Sprinkles' sound is a throwback to house music's queer underground roots. These deep, evocative grooves have little truck with the wave of nostalgia which usually accompanies the mainstream remembrance of house music and club culture's early days. Dimitri From Paris
Button Factory, Dublin 11pm €15/€12
soundcloud.com/dfp

Geographical confusion aside, given that his birthplace was Istanbul rather than Paris, Dimitri Yerasimos has done very well for himself with a relatively straightforward schtick. He stands on a stage, he looks smart in a suit and he plays some damn brilliant house and disco music. While he's never quite hit the same creative heights as his 1997 Sacrebleu album and has released more than his fair share of dud mix albums (especially the various Playboy Mansion tie-ins), he can be relied open to provide the soundtrack for a decent, sometimes dashing and occasionally decadent night out.

TECHNO

Demika

Revolution, Waterford 10pm €10
soundcloud.com/demika

There are three sides to Demika’s work when it comes to delivering finely tuned underground techno and house. She’s a co-founder of the Femmes Fatales crew who want to increase the number of women spinning in clubs. She’s a resident on Modulate FM with her Subterrania show. And there’s also the Limited Records’ label, which provides an outlet for both herself and other acts. Support tonight from Will Power and Ed Horrigan.
