Julian Cope
Whelan's Dublin 8pm €25

There is something wonderfully chaotic about Julian Cope. He has straddled all manner of things over the past 35 years – chart pop, brain-fried rock, chronicler of all things kosmiche, surreal novelist – and so this gig promises to be a smorgasboard of Copeisms.

The Galway club marks a year of drum’n’bass happenings with a visit from Misanthrop. The German don has been finetuning his darkside sounds and cutting-edge funk over the years through releases for his own Neosignal, Renegade Hardware, Shadow Law and Subtitles, as well as sets at clubs and festivals. Joining him tonight will be an all-star cast including Zanmato (aka Phunty and Zigguratt), Zenji, Badhabit, Wendy and BlackLip Bass co-founder Whatch.

ELECTRONICA

Kiasmos
Opium Rooms, Liberty Lane Dublin 11pm €10

Kiasmos (Icelandic producer Ólafur Arnalds and Faroe Island musician Janus Rasmussen) released one of the finest electronic albums of last year. Making their Irish debut at this late-night show, expect midnight ramblers and prowlers to be carried away by elegant, slow-build electronica.

Sean Nós Cois Life
The Teachers' Club, 36 Parnell Square 9pm €5,

With two vibrant singing circles in the city centre alone (An Góilín and The Clé Club), not to mention a raft of gatherings across the county and country, this year’s festival of singing by the Liffey will be a boon for anyone in search of a song to widen their own repertoire. Liam Mac Con Iomaire and Seán Garvey are just two of the guests, and there are plenty of musicians in the mix too. Workshops throughout today will be followed by a concert in a venue that An Góilín has made its own. On all weekend.
