Kincora Trad Weekend

Kincora Traditional Weekend in Killaloe, Co Clare, is a celebration of live traditional Irish music sessions, concerts, workshops and recitals. Other events will include traditional music river cruises, children’s sessions, a Pipe Band Parade and storytelling.

Irish Cycling Show

For the past four years, the Irish Cycling Show has been catering for the growing interest in the sport in Ireland. With summer on the way, hoardes of cyclists will soon be back on the saddle and organisers expect a large turnout at the RDS over the weekend. Expect seminars, stalls, stunt shows and acres and acres of lycra.

Women in Media conference

The Women in Media conference, at Kilcoolys Country House Hotel in Ballybunion, focuses on the achievements and challenges of women working in media and politics. This year former Tánaiste Mary Harney opens the event which features debates and talks with media figures such as this newspaper’s former editor Geraldine Kennedy, broadcaster Olivia O’Leary and RTÉ’s Miriam O’Callaghan.

Chowder Cook Off

If the thought of tasting 32 different chowders doesn’t make you sick then head for the All Ireland Chowder Cook off in Kinsale, Co Cork, on Sunday. Representatives from every county in Ireland will flex their mussels to see if they can become the country’s best sea soup chef. Tickets are €10 and entitle the holder to sample all the chowders before voting for their favourite. It is, according to the organisers, an “unusual and affordable” lunch option.

Spring Fair

Barnett Demesne near Belfast will host weekend of activities on an environmental theme including floral art demonstrations, spring flower show exhibitions, live music, entertainment and dancing as well as other children’s activities. There is no parking at the demesne but a shuttle bus is available from the Mary Peters Track.
