Shakespeare has long suffered at the hands of school children, and Romeo and Juliet must surely have cut the deepest wound. A professional production removed from the curricular context, then, is a refreshing proposition indeed. Wayne Jordan, who turned his supple hand to Twelfth Night a few years ago, directs, with design by the inventive Ciaran O'Melia. Fra Fee of Les Miserables fame provides the frisson of celebrity status in this age-old tale of star-crossed lovers that can move even the most recalcritant teen.

Peripheral Vision
Bernadette Kiely. Hamilton Gallery, 4 Castle St Until May 2nd
hamiltongallery.ie

In her paintings, Bernadette Kiely is a close observer of place and terrain over time, sensitive to both seasonal and historical shifts. Here, she looks to the edges of things, reflections glimpsed in the corner of the eye, misty views barely registered in passing, the sudden awareness of blossom. There’s a muted, melancholy romanticism to her vision.
