Sabina Mac Mahon is a scrupulous researcher with an admirable command of historical detail. Here she sets her sights on the brief flowering of the South Down Society of Modern Art, documenting its 1929 exhibition and presenting other archival material relating to the members’ interest in Gaelic themes with a Modernist twist. You may well be surprised that we haven’t heard more of them before.
