Rose Wylie made headlines last year when she won the John Moores Painting Prize, not so much for her work – big, bold, graphic, even cartoonish, with a sense of irreverent humour – bur more for her age: she was 80. Although she has painted for more than 60 years, acclaim has only caught up with her over the last six years or so.
