What: Major overhaul of building's interior, backstage facilities and orchestra pit
When: Work due to begin in January, should be completed by end 2007
Grand Canal Theatre
Where: Grand Canal Square in the Docklands
What: 2,000-seat theatre for large-scale musicals and other commercial ventures
When: Part of seven-year project to transform Docklands; the theatre is due for completion by 2008
U2 Tower
Where: End of Sir John Rogerson's Quay
What: Tallest building in Dublin at 130 metres: luxury apartments topped by a recording studio for U2, their old studio is being scheduled for demolition
When: Planning permission has just been sought.
Smock Alley
Where: St Michael and John's Church, Temple Bar
What: Two theatre spaces on two floors, one of which will be used by the Gaiety School of Acting
When: Fundraising for the project is under way
Collins Barracks
Where: Heuston Station
What: New pavilion to be constructed to display Erskine Childers's classic yacht, the Asgard, which is currently being renovated
When: Subject to planning permission being sorted out, work should commence early next year
