JENS KOMMNICK
Siúnta
Siúnta Music ****

There are few musicians willing to let their music percolate to such a rich consistency as German acoustic guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Jens Kommnick. Surprisingly, this is his solo debut, although he has recorded with the German Irish trio Iontach and has produced other artists' work. Siúntais a thought- provoking collection: its kaleidoscopic range encompasses Irish and Breton traditional, jazz and classical baroque music. Kommnick's own compositions dominate and the Cooder-esque bluesiness of the opener, The Cat in the Bodhrán, is a taster of his laser-sharp talents. The inventiveness of Kommnick's treatment of Georg Philipp Telemann's Concerto for Four Violins (Allegro) for four bouzoukis is equally breathtaking. Unhurried and unerringly erudite, Siúntareveals its layers gradually and with subtle intent. www.jenskommnick.com SIOBHÁN LONG
