Houses and the language of love

Sir, – Reading your residential property section yesterday (April 24th) I was exposed to language such as “imposing elegance”, “an oasis of grassy walks and venerable trees”, “sophistication and character”, “sun-drenched west-facing rear garden”, “lush wooded areas awash with bluebells” and “this Herculean property”. Given that many people have very sorry tales to tell of their experiences of the vagaries of the housing market in recent years, might I suggest that the time is ripe for a reduction in the seductive superlatives. Estate agents please copy. Yours, etc,

FRANK BYRNE,

Cormac Terrace,
