The recent mild weather is set to continue and there is no indication that the cold snap of early January will return.

Temperatures will be well above normal for the middle of January with daytime highs of 12 degrees. The average for the month is 5.5 degrees.

High pressure has settled over France and it has been feeding warm and cloudy air over Ireland for the last number of days, according to Met Éireann forecaster Mark Bowe.

There will be plenty of sunshine in the eastern half of the country on Saturday, though it will be cloudy elsewhere. There will be rain on the western seaboard on Saturday night.

Sunday will see the fine weather continue in the east with sunshine accompanying highs of 12 degrees, but there will be rain in western parts.

The pattern will continue into the early days of next week. Monday will be dry, but Tuesday will see outbreaks of rain developing from the south.

The forecast for later next week is for the weather to become more unsettled.
