French police to interview Irish woman

An Irish woman who may be an important witness in the hunt for the killer of Caroline Dickinson is to be interviewed this week by French police.

Ms Valerie Jacques (21), from Ballymorris, Co Clare, believes she was stalked in 1994 by Francisco Arce Montes, who is now suspected of having raped and killed Ms Dickinson.

Ms Jacques, who did not tell her parents about the incident at the time, says she recognised the man on a television newscast at the weekend.

Recounting her experience yesterday, her brother Alan said she had been on a school trip to France as a 14-year-old when she and her friends saw a man staring at them in a Paris park, where they were having a picnic.

He followed them to the Loire valley and she woke in the middle of the night to find him in the room she was sharing with four other Irish girls.

"He was sitting at the end of the bed calling her name. He had gone through her bags and found a notebook with her name on it," Mr Jacques told RTE radio.

He returned on the following night and called her name outside the door.
