The Irish Times has been shortlisted for nine awards at this year’s Justice Media Awards.
Legal Affairs Correspondent Mary Carolan and Public Affairs Editor Simon Carswell were nominated in the print/online daily category for their series “Inside the District Courts”.
Northern Editor Freya McClements was shortlisted in the human rights/social justice category for her piece on the killing of John Pat Cunningham.
Features journalist Jennifer O’Connell was nominated in the same category for her piece looking at women’s experiences of sexual assault. Acting Features Editor Mary Minihan was also shortlisted in the category for her column entitled “Remembering Omagh: ‘There were stories we couldn’t write because they were too horrific’”.

The In The News podcast was shortlisted in the broadcast category for its episode looking at whether murderer Graham Dwyer could win his appeal against his conviction. The Women’s Podcast was also shortlisted for an episode reflecting on men’s violence towards women.
Freelance journalist Declan Brennan was nominated twice for his article on rape victim Aisling Vickers, in the court reporting and print/online daily categories. Freelance journalist Isabel Hayes was shortlisted for her article on the Munster abuse trial in the court reporting category.
The Law Society said it had a record 277 entries across 15 categories. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Wednesday June 22nd.
