Gardaí and Dublin Fire Brigade personnel were on Sunday at the scene of a fire in Lucan, Co Dublin, which claimed the life of a man. It is understood the victim is in his 40s and was originally from eastern Europe.
The fire broke out just after 6am at a private residence in Lucan village. Traffic diversions were put in place in Lucan village as the scene was sealed off around the property to facilitate the emergency services response.
“The man’s body remains at the scene,” a Garda spokesperson said in reply to queries. “The coroner has been notified and a postmortem will take place. The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination. Investigations are ongoing.”

The Garda added they are aware “of commentary in circulation online in relation to this incident which contains misinformation, disinformation and fake news”. It urged members of the public to independently verify information before sharing it on social media or on messaging apps.

Despite some claims the fire was linked to an international protection centre, that is not the case and the man who died was not an international protection applicant.
Dublin Bus has said two of its services – the C3 and C4 – are running on altered routes around Lucan village.
