Off-duty garda injured after crash involving motorbike and car in Dublin city

An off-duty garda was injured after the motorbike he was riding was in collision with a car in Dublin City on Wednesday night.

The collision occurred on the North Strand road shortly before 10pm, gardaí confirmed. Passers-by witnessed the collision and went to the aid of the garda and driver of the car immediately.

Emergency services, including Dublin Fire Brigade and several gardaí, were on the scene on the northside of the city a short time later.

It is understood the injured garda was taken to the Mater Hospital for treatment. His injuries were described as not life-threatening.

The road has been closed to the public, but is expected to reopen shortly.

Former Lord Mayor of Dublin and north inner city Independent councillor Christy Burke said: “The configuration of the North Strand road needs to be redesigned as it can be dangerous at times.”
