Liam Jegou qualified for the semi-final of the men’s C1 (Canadian Canoe) at the European canoe slalom Junior Championships at Bourg Saint Maurice in France yesterday.
The 17-year-old placed fourth after his first run. His time of 104.56 seconds, including a two-second penalty, left him seventh overall after the second run. The semi-finals are set for tomorrow. The event also features the Under-23 Championships.
Jegou took up the sport while living in Galway as a young child, but now lives in France. The top 20 qualified yesterday, and Robert Hendrick, who placed 26th, did not make the cut.
