TODAY Jack L, Camille O'Sullivan and Chuzzle are among those taking part in tonight's fundraiser for victims of the Tsunami in the Sugar Club on Leeson Street, Dublin. A "silent" auction of framed photographic prints is also planned. Tickets €20 available on the door. Show starts at 8 p.m.
TOMORROW: The Irish Seal Sanctuary is looking for a crowd to gather as two young seals are released into the wild following their recovery at the Garristown Seal Sanctuary. Front Beach, Balbriggan, Co Dublin at 3 p.m.
TUESDAY: The Tsunami fundraisers show no sign of abating and this time it's the nation's authors who are coming together to show their support. Roddy Doyle and Marian Keyes have teamed up for a reading in the Peppercanister Church in Dublin to raise money for the Irish Red Cross. Admission €20, and it starts at 7.30 p.m.
WEDNESDAY: Put a little South Seas sunshine into these dark January days with a visit to the Greenlane Gallery in Dingle, Co Kerry, which is hosting the Pauline Bewick South Seas Exhibition, featuring work not seen in public before. Opening hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Saturday and by appointment on Sunday, when those interested should phone 066-9152018 for a viewing.
THURSDAY: This is the last chance for those aged between 12-16 to enter the Shamrock Foods baking competition which challenges children to design a modern baking recipe for their favourite celebrity. The winning recipe will be published in the RTÉ Guide and the young cook gets to be a celebrity chef for the day. The winning student's school also receives a prize. Closing date for entries is next Friday. For more details and application forms contact Helena on 01-6626930.
FRIDAY: The first Leviathan - debate, music and political cabaret - of 2005 takes place tonight in Crawdaddy at the Old Harcourt Street Station, Dublin. Hosted by David McWilliams, comedian Ardal O'Hanlon will provide the laughs, with music, as always, from White Cholera. The proposition tonight is that "inequality is actually good for society". Admission €20.
SATURDAY: The Merriman Winter School begins today, marking the bi-centenary of Co Clare poet Brian Merriman's death. The official opening takes place in the Shannon Shamrock Hotel in Bunratty tonight with a lecture on the poet by Dr Gearóid Denvir of NUI, Galway, while the fun continues at the Merriman Club at 10.30 p.m. with Líadan, an all-female group.
