Aisling’s Beauty Picks: Vaseline as a skin healer and Kate Moss Nudes

Plus a skin smoothing primer, coloured liquid liner and an easy contouring kit

Origins Original Skin Retexturising Mask €30

Get right back to basics with this baby-pink mud mask. Apply a thick layer and leave it on for 10 minutes until it hardens and cracks in the time-honoured tradition of clay masks.

Rose clay draws out impurities and smoothes skin, leaving it soft and ready for serum or moisturiser.

Eve Lom adds functionality to the original primer with this light-infusing base that contains SPF30, moisturising ingredients and provides a smooth base for make-up. It is light weight and also contain vitamins A and E to give skin an extra boost.

It is equally suitable for wearing alone on those good skin days.

Vaseline From €3

A humble little pot or tin of Vaseline has probably been hiding at the bottom of your handbag or in the dusty depths of the bathroom cabinet for as long as you can remember. However, petroleum jelly deserves much more credit than we give it. It an excellent emollient, acts as a barrier that keeps moisture in the skin and soothes cracked or sore skin and burns.

Vaseline has also recently passed the rigorous testing process to become medically recognised as a skin-healing agent. A true unsung hero.

Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Liner €30.50

Fans of coloured eyeliner will love these four shades. Apply close to the lash line to enhance eyeshadow, or wear one on its own for a sophisticated defined eye.

Not one I would recommend for beginners, as it is slightly fiddly (chunky liners are best for newbies) but perfect for liquid eyeliner devotees.

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Nude Collection €6.99

Five pretty shades in soft nudes to suit a variety of skin tones. The texture is rich and it lasts for hours.

Estée Lauder New Dimension Shape + Sculpt Face Kit €45

A less scary contour kit: you can apply this one lightly before your foundation if you have blending fear.

An instruction leaflet shows you where to place the two shades lightly for a natural look, but go to esteelauder.com to for videos on how to apply properly if you are a contour virgin.

Use liquid foundation over the top for a subtle effect.
