Six of our favourite looks from the M&S spring preview

The new collection sees a lot more cotton and linen, a big emphasis on green, and new takes on the trench coat

At a sneak preview in London yesterday of Marks & Spencer’s selected spring styles for next season, the words wearability and versatility cropped up again and again. “Customers are looking for wardrobe builders” said Belinda Earl, womenswear director at the high street giant, citing the continuing trend for florals and what she called seasonless dressing - like a long dress worn with boots and a big jumper in winter – but with sandals in summer.  Last season’s “constellation” print dress for instance, was a winner with 1.7 million sold.

The new spring/summer collection arriving in late January or early February will see a lot more cotton and linen, a big emphasis on green, inevitably some new takes on the trench coat (there’s one in black and white gingham) along with some standout accessories – pastel pumps and bold Art Deco earrings. Here are six of our favourite looks.

Swimwear and underwear are always strong points in M&S and this off the shoulder number updates a navy one piece. Superlight but structured underwear is designed to be worn as outerwear. Striped off the shoulder swimsuit 40 from with jacket €105.
Green is a colour trend for spring - this neat green leather jacket is teamed with high waisted trousers and softly tied for a relaxed city look. Leather jacket €339, top €55, trousers €54, bag €125.
Palm and floral prints remain strong for the new season particularly on a dark background like this skirt. Skirt €47.50, jumper €34, boots €95 and bag €47.50 from M&S spring summer collection.
This flared shirt covers the posterior and look good with jeans. Shirt €55, jeans €53 from M&S spring collection.
