What trends emerged at Brown Thomas spring/summer 2018?

“This is a season of decoration and ornamentation, of non conformist glamour” said Shelly Corkery, head of fashion at the Brown Thomas spring/summer breakfast presentation this morning making her point in a graphic monochrome print dress by Celine. With over 90 outfits on the catwalk, what we’ll be wearing for the new season was abundantly clear from this very romantic line up where deconstructed tailoring and sloped wide shoulders (Stella McCartney, Celine) served to accentuate the colourful pleats, frills, flirty floral and the graphic prints. It’s full on femininity for spring - and forceful.

What was obvious too were the longer lengths be they long skirts with three quarter length jackets (The Row),  creamy wrap dresses (Dior), filmy, whimsical twosomes (Erdem) or the floaty floral Victorian floor length gowns from Zimmerman.  For the first time Prada and Miu Miu were on show with jewelled and marabou feather decor, feisty tweed combinations and feminist cartoon coats (art references abound) that no doubt will be widely copied on the high street.  Newcomers like Sies Marjan’s pistachio midis, Rosie Assoulin’s neon take on 40s shirt dresses and Dodo Ba Or’s flouncy bohemian prints made an impact too. Note the shoes: lots of pointy flats and kitten heeled slingbacks (Givenchy, Celine, Saint Laurent), sock boots (Balenciaga) and colourful and transparent stilettos (Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik).
