Beautiful Bogie and Bacall bouquet

Truckloads of red roses are about to land in florists and supermarkets across the land, but even with a glut, it can be hard to find a really pleasing bunch. Too often the roses are gloomy rather than gorgeous, smell of absolutely nothing and simply curl up and die almost as soon as they hit a vase.

This splendid bunch has staying power. Called the Bogie & Bacall, it's filled with old-fashioned red piano roses that fill the room with fragrance. It's from Rosebud, a new flower design company that specialises in bouquets and arrangements inspired by films, books, art and music. Based in Stoneybatter, Dublin but selling only online, Rosebud is run by art-historian Ruth Kenny, who previously worked as a curator at the Tate in London. She has, she says, been stuffing sweet peas into jamjars since she was a child. This bouquet is very grown-up and a little bit of a masterpiece. Rosebuddublin. com Orna Mulcahy
