In a nondescript west Dublin industrial estate is a building that is HQ for a MicksGarage.com, an €11 million turnover business that ships 18,000 orders of car parts and accessories a month to 70 countries. Forty-eight people are employed in the Dublin office and the company recently scooped a gold award in the entrepreneurial category at the European eCommerce Awards.
The start-up began 10 years ago in a bedroom in Co Mayo where twin brothers Michael and Ciaran Crean were surrounded by "sheep, cows and a great view of Lough Conn", as they put it.
The business has grown from a website with 3,000 car accessories to over 1.5 million car parts and accessories listed. It ships more than 1,000 products per day and the company has just opened a distribution centre in Krakov, Poland and is soon opening a depot in Liverpool in UK.
