Uday's double: http://latifyahia2006.blogspot.com
Saddam and his aides are dead, along with his sons Uday and Qusay. But a man who was once forced to pose as Uday's double is alive and living here. Latif Yahia's blog covers his unfortunate experiences in Iraq and Ireland.
"In April of 2000 I was assaulted in Dublin. It was an unprovoked attack, and robbery was not the motive either. I received 20 stitches to my forehead, nose and cheek. While I sat bleeding in the hospital A&E, and the doctors and nurses passed by hurrying to their coffee breaks, I wondered how it had all come to this."
The Sigla Blog: www.sineadgleeson.com/blog
Rocky Balboa, released yesterday, has taken some heavy hits (sorry) from critics and cinema-goers. Rare praise comes from the Sigla Blog. "The end credits run alongside various people running up those famous Philadelphia steps and jumping up and down in the air (who hasn't mimicked this?). More than anything, you can't help admire Stallone for getting so unbelievably fit."
DangerHere: www.dangerhere.com
Under the heading "Hall of Guff", DangerHere has a collection of lines by football commentators, among them some of George Hamilton's beauties such as: "Kevin Moran . . . oldest man on the pitch today . . . 35 years of age . . . of course the referee could possibly be older than that . . . and technically he's on the pitch too . . . then again his linesmen could be even older than him . . . but are they technically 'on' the pitch?" Poor George. Could he really have said all the silly things attributed to him?
Irish Blog Awards: http://awards.ie/blogawards
In the run-up to the Irish Blog Awards, expect plenty of blog posts with smiley faces and ellipses. Take Twenty Major (http://twentymajor.blogspot.com). "Of course you can nominate me or any other blog you like. No pressure. It's not like I know where each and every one of you lives or anything. And it's not like I don't have anything better to do than wait around and 'convince' you to nominate and vote for me. I have a busy, fulfilling life, you know." Nominations close on Friday.
