Gavi, Quadro Sei 2005, Single Estate; Domaine d'Angayrac, Costières de Nîmes
Gavi, Quadro Sei 2005, Single Estate, €7.95 The theme this week is value for money for €10 or thereabouts. And this smart, fresh white, with 11.5 per cent alcohol, from Gavi, in Piedmont, is brilliant value, with a perfume of pear and apricot on the nose and a citrus-laced acidity keeping it all together. From Marks & Spencer.
Domaine d'Angayrac, Costières de Nîmes, €9.99-€10.99 A small, careful vineyard and a classic southern-French blend of half Grenache and half Syrah are the keys to this dark, sensuous wine full of chocolatey flavour, rich fruit and a relatively comfortable 12.5 per cent alcohol. From Deveney's, Dundrum, Dublin 14; Bottleshop, Kilmacud, Co Dublin; Kelly's, Clontarf, Dublin 3; Lord Mayor's, Swords, Co Dublin; Old Stand, Mullingar, Co Westmeath; O'Neill's, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan.
