For the love of gloves

Key winter details such as wide cuffs and the three-quarter length sleeve demand a longer glove and one shop that is offering a comprehensive selection of gloves is Claudio Ferrici in Dublin's Westbury Mall.

Owner Paula Rowan knows her leathers and though the shop is mostly associated with bags, this season she has produced her first range of gloves to her own design for the shop. They come in more than 50 styles and 25 colours, handmade from the finest Italian leathers and sheepskin.

Her short button glove is just like the one sported by Carrie in Sex and the City and with black being everywhere this winter, one way of brightening up a black coat or dress is with a pair of gloves in pink, fuschia or green. Prices are from €50 to €160 - for the over-the-elbow numbers.

Italian touch by the sea

Dublin's answer to Corso Como in Milan, that wonderful emporium of clothes, books, and furniture, is Seagreen in Monkstown which, apart from anything else, is probably the best place in the country for ballet flats of all kinds. "We call this the perfect airport shoe," says Aislinn Coffey, describing the Bloch pumps which come in cushioned leather in gold, purple and black patent, and in grey suede for €149-€159.

The shop is also strong on jeans, now located in their own dedicated corner, and is the biggest stockist in Ireland of J Brand, Paige, Made in Heaven and Notify. Check out the new Pauric Sweeney patent leather bags, Botkier and the art deco clutches of Lara Bohinc.

There's a lot going in clothing as well, with good edit buying from See by Chloë, K by Karl Lagerfeld, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel, Manouche, Paul & Joe as well as some classy New York pieces from Milly and Tibi. And don't get us going on the furniture, the terrific coffee and the organic cosmetics.

Travelling in style

You don't have to fly first class with British Airways to get some of the poshest eye masks around. A young UK designer called Otis Batterbee who worked with Louis Vuitton in Paris after graduating in fashion from St Martin's College of Art and Design in London has produced a super-stylish range of travel accessories, including eyemasks in woven tweed and shirting fabrics that are bound to become cult items. Edged with satin piping and infused with a hint of lavender, they're jet-setter quality at a very affordable €39 each.

From a family of designers who worked with Issey Miyake and Zandra Rhodes, Batterbee grew up on the family factory floor and has Irish connections in Cork. Luggage has always been his fascination. The collection includes lovely classic envelope bags in tweed with brass zips, "City Slicker" shirting fabric hankies as well as washbags, candle sets and travel sprays ranging in price from €21 to €71. Everything has been made with great attention to detail.
