Seven things to do this week

TODAY The festival season gets into full swing this weekend. Feile na nDeise provides a programme of music, song, poetry and dance in Dungarvan (www.feilenandeise.com); in Limerick, there's the Riverfest, with 25 free music events at the Trinity Rooms, and various shenanigans on the Shannon (www.riverfest.ie). In Wexford there's rock 'n' roll in the Arts Centre, and in pubs all over Kilkenny, rhythm 'n' roots music. In the west, chamber music devotees can flock to Sligo for the Vogler Spring Festival at St Columba's, with nine concerts starting at noon. Or you could go bird watching with Eric Demspey in Carlingford (042-9373033).

TOMORROW The Heineken Green Energy Festival makes a change from tribunals at Dublin Castle. Saturday night it was taken over by Snow Patrol. Ian Brown, he of Stone Roses fame, appears tonight at 8pm and the support comes from local heroes, Republic of Loose. Tickets €39.50.

MONDAY The Chalets, that fearless, nightrocking fivesome that includes our illustrator Chris Judge  share the billing with the Kaiser Chiefs, with whom they've been touring around Europe. If you are travelling on the M7 today, the mammoth new Whitewater Shopping Centre in Newbridge, Co Kildare has a series of fashion shows on the go.

TUESDAY The Kooks, the much heralded four-piece band from Brighton, make their headline debut performance tonight at The Village in Wexford Street at 8pm and will shake off the nickname "Supergrass Jr" once and for all. Tickets €19.65 (01-4758555).

WEDNESDAY This is the last week to see the thoughtful and provocative exhibition devoted to war imagery - This Ain't No Foolin Around - at the Rubicon Gallery in Dublin. 10 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2. Until May 6th. Also last week to see Howard Hodgkin colours at IMMA; it ends May 7th.

THURSDAY The annual Gay Theatre Festival, which runs from April 27th to May 14th at venues across Dublin, continues tonight with Me and Marlene, a Gloves Off Production at the Colbalt Cafe and Gallery in North Great Georges Street at 11pm (www.gaytheatre.ie).

FRIDAY Dust off your dancing shoes; the three-day International Salsa Congress is in session, so it's time to do a little gerrymandering. First workshop at 4pm, with evening club and show at 8.30pm and party from 11pm. www.salsa.ie (01-8874536).
