• Damian Corr, restaurant and bar manager at the Merrion Hotel, recently won the Good Food Ireland Wine Person of the Year competition to land a four-day trip to Rioja, and a visit to the bodegas of Alvaro Palacios.
The award goes to the person who can show a passion and knowledge for the subject and, more importantly, an ability to interact with customers and help them chose the best wine to accompany their meal.
• The CIVB, the organisation responsible for marketing the wines of Bordeaux, is holding a tasting of 140 wines, all priced under €30, in Fallon & Byrne, Dublin, this Monday, October 21st, from 6-8pm. Tickets are available from Fallon & Byrne, Exchequer Street (tel: 01-4721010) for €12 each.
