Jaipur, the Indian restaurant on George's Street in Dublin 2, which was the first of the new wave of modern Indian cooking establishments to open in the city, is to close on January 20th as the building in which it is located has been sold.

“It has been a great 16 years, with many wonderful memories” said proprietor Asheesh Dewan, “but as our tenancy had been so uncertain for so long, it nearly feels overdue. Thankfully, every restaurant in the Jaipur Group is busy, so the staff can stay with us.”

Dewan has Jaipur restaurants in Dalkey, Malahide and Ongar, as well as Ananda in Dundrum Town Centre and Chakra in Greystones, and is now actively seeking new restaurant locations in Dublin city and beyond. Jaipur Dalkey and Chakra in Greystones will undergo renovation later in 2015.
