Why I love to . . . Sweat

‘A high-intensity, full-body workout, mixing cardio and weights. I loved it immediately’

Lauren O’Loughlin in a Sweat class at Perpetua gym

I first started going to the gym about eight years ago, and quickly became addicted to the feeling I got after a tough workout. I travel to London a lot with work, and one of the things I look forward to most is trying out all the different classes available. Straight away I was hooked on the vibrancy of the whole gym experience over there.

When I saw Perpetua gym was bringing that vibe to Ireland, I was excited to try their Sweat classes – a high-intensity, full-body workout, mixing both cardio and weights. I loved it immediately. The lighting and music motivated me, and the small class size made me feel like I was getting the attention I needed.

The social aspect of the gym is a huge part of the experience for me, and as this class is tailored to everyone; from fitness fanatics to first-timers, it creates a really great community and team spirit.

Pure energy

I also love the variety; the programming always has something different to offer, which means I never get tired of the routine or bored. One day we could be going from box jumps and body weight squats to sprints on the treadmill; the next we’re deadlifting and pushing a sled. It’s 45 minutes of pure energy, and I love that.

Every Saturday morning, I meet up with friends, we work out together and then catch up over coffee. It is such a nice way to socialise and get healthy.

These days I find it too easy to feel overwhelmed and caught up in the fast-paced lifestyle. This is one hour a day where I focus on me and I know I’ll leave feeling like a different person. It is a part of my day that I always look forward to.
