THE National Children's Hospital at Harcourt Street, Dublin 2, is expected to make about £1.7 million when it is offered for sale by tender through Sherry FitzGerald later this autumn.
An unusual feature of the sale is that it will not close for 12 months to allow the hospital to relocate to the new 500-bed teaching hospital which is being built in Tallaght.
Sherry FitzGerald says the delayed closing date should prove an incentive to purchasers as it will allow them to have their planning application processed without having to carry the full cost of the property
The hospital backs on to Iveagh Gardens and has access both from Harcourt Street and a laneway to Clonmel Street.
It stands on a site of 0.84 of an acre and has a gross internal floor area of 65,000 square feet, of which 46,000 square feet are located in the Victorian buildings.
The property would be suitable for a number of uses, subject to planning permission, including residential, hotel or guesthouse, according to the agency. It could also be retained as a private hospital.
There is scope to subdivide and refurbish the buildings fronting on to Harcourt Street and those at the rear.
