The Co Waterford town of Dungarvan is to get a new shopping centre and ancillary commercial developments. A planning application for a £20 million scheme is to be lodged shortly by the Thurles-based developers, Clancy Construction. It has paid around £5 million for a town centre site of 36 acres sold by Lisney on behalf of Avonmore Waterford Creamery. Neil Bannon of letting agents Harrington Bannon is already in discussions with several leading multiples for the anchor store, which will have around 30,000 sq. ft. There will also be 20 shop units and possibly a second large store in the centre. Super Valu operates two supermarkets in the town, the only multiple to be represented in Dungarvan.
Clancy Construction, which also developed Thurles Shopping Centre about two years ago, is also planning to provide about 25,000 sq. ft of retail warehousing close to the Dungarvan centre along with a drive-through restaurant and petrol filling station, 60,000 sq. ft of industrial warehousing and about 50 townhouses. Dungarvan has a population of 7,500.
