ANOTHER hotel is planned for the Ballsbridge area of Dublin 4. Treasury Holdings has secured planning permission to convert the former St Stephen's School at Northumberland Road, into a 31-room hotel.
The company, which is controlled by John Ronan and Richard Barrett, is expected to seek a tenant to rent the hotel before embarking on the redevelopment of the school at a cost of around £2 million.
The plans for the hotel by James G O'Connor of architects Arthur Gibney and Partners provide for the use of the three main classrooms as public rooms and the development of a two-storey over lower ground floor wing to the rear. The new building will contain the bedrooms, guest lounge kitchen and stores. The main access will be through the former headmaster's house.
The school, which was sold by the Representative Church Body, dates from the middle of the 19th century. It was built by the Pembroke Estate and is one of the few remaining public building in Dublin designed by Woodward.
Treasury Holdings is awaiting a decision from An Bord Pleanala on a proposal to build a major hotel for the Hilton Group on the AIB site between Westmoreland Street, Fleet Street and College Street, Dublin 2.
