THE LIVINGROOM of 9 Newpark Lodge (see page 4) is a mix of old, new and funky.

Warmth was created in the room by painting the chimney breast with Farrow Ball Eating Room Red.

The old, or in this case reproduction, comes in the form of the antiqued oval cherrywood dining table from Global Village (01-2046087). It is handmade (to order), has two extension leaves and costs €2,675. The chairs, which cost €550 each, are in solid cherrywood with upholstered and sprung seats. Global Village is currently offering a 10 per cent discount on the table and chairs.

The new is represented by the toffee silk Howard two-seater that costs €890 (excluding VAT) and the bold black and toffee Jacquard occasional chairs which cost €750. The funky comes courtesy of the Ubu nest coffee table, €399, and the Metal Design wall plaque, at €250 (excluding VAT). All are from the Carina Sherlock range at House and Garden Presentation Services (01-2011712).

The pink and white bedroom was decorated for a nine-year-girl who is still in the princess phase but it incorporates a few adaptable pieces that will grow with her. The Victorian-style Hastings bed from Laura Ashley Home has a pull-out bed underneath, which is great for when friends stay over. It can also be used as a day bed or seat and costs around €1,120. The €745 Devon chest of drawers, also from Laura Ashley, should also see them through their teenage years. When it comes to creating a fairy bedroom it's all in the accessories: the fairy lights, at €22, came from Next (nextdirectory.ie).
