Owners of protected structures - formerly known as listed buildings - are being reminded by Dublin Corporation that in addition to their responsibilities in the area of conservation, the corporation has a grant system in place to assist with renovation costs. The corporation's Conservation Office provides advice to owners of protected structures on technical conservation issues and administers the National Conservation Grant Scheme. This scheme can provide up to 50 per cent of the cost of conservation works, to a maximum of £10,000.
It is the policy of Dublin Corporation to secure the protection of buildings and structures that are now protected structures as defined in the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act 1999. Failure to comply with conservation issues can leave the property owner liable to fines or even jail. Tel: 01 672 2222 for applications.
