Enniskerry/€2.5m: Built three years ago, Dunsallagh House in Enniskerry is described as neo-Gothic by agent Hassett, which is auctioning the property on September 30th with a guide of €2.5 million. But the overall feeling of the place is American, writes Eoin Lyons

The scale, character and overall modernity are more readily associated with US than Irish homes. The 418 sq m (4,500 sq ft) six-bedroom house is great for a family.

Dunsallagh's most attractive features are perhaps the great size of most rooms, the clever way the outdoor areas are landscaped (a terrace rising to a high lawn) and its unusual location, perched on a steep hill above Enniskerry village.

The views from the upper windows look across the Sugar Loaf mountain to the sea. The front door opens into a double height entrance hall with curving limestone and wrought-iron staircase.

At ground floor level are kitchen, livingroom, diningroom and sunroom and a study which could also be used as a bedroom.

Upstairs on the first floor are five double bedrooms (three of which have large, well-fitted en suites). On the second floor are the playroom, one very small bedroom and another en suite bedroom. Almost every one of these bedrooms has a balcony with space to sit out. There are plenty of nice small details throughout the house including tumble marble flooring in the sunroom, double dishwashers in the kitchen, solid hardwood floors in the diningroom, body jet shower in the bathroom and so on. Commuting is possible: we timed the journey from the city centre at about 30 minutes mid-afternoon.
