Dublin 2: €2m A stunning city centre apartment - once rented to rock stars - is now on the market. Edel Morgan reports
Bought two years ago as a city centre pad for visiting rock stars and celebrities, Harry Crosbie's city centre penthouse is now on the market for €2 million through HOK Residential.
Number 1 Castle Street, Dublin 2, provided VIPs and artists appearing at Vicar Street and the Point with a suitably swish place to stay while in town - the rent was reputedly €6,000 per month. The 255.5 sq m (2,750 sq ft) two-bedroom apartment was also available for hire for corporate events and film and TV shoots - Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne were there two weeks ago filming ITV's talent show X Factor. But it seems the celebrity rental market isn't as lucrative as initially envisaged and number 1 Castle Street, next to City Hall and Dublin Castle, is for sale.
The selling agent believes it's likely that the apartment will appeal to someone in the media or fashion industry - or a business person needing a base in Dublin that's perfect for entertaining. It has the look of a converted warehouse with breath-taking 20ft ceilings and a minimalist neutral decor with occasional splashes of bold colour. One of its most stunning features is a wrap-around double storey window with its own seating area.
The mezzanine dining area is large enough to accommodate a rock star's entourage and there are two private decked rooftop gardens. The bedroom suites are reached via separate hallways. The kitchen is open-plan industrial chic and the floors throughout are polished oak.
