Errew House, a 19th century mansion sitting on the shores of Lough Conn in Co Mayo, has been converted into 14 luxury apartments which will appeal to both foreign and Irish buyers. They are for sale from £130,000 through Young's auctioneers in Dublin.

Errew House is a three-storey mansion with a south-facing tower that has been incorporated into one of the penthouses. The apartments range in size from 500 to 1,200 sq ft.

There are seven one-bedroom units priced at £130,000, four two-bedroom apartments at £170,000 and three penthouses, each with three bedrooms, at £205,000.

Built in 1870, Errew House has a colourful history. Originally commissioned by Granville Henry Knox, whose family is associated with the establishment of The Irish Times, the property was built by J F Fuller, who also designed one of Ireland's finest country house hotels, Ashford Castle, and Mount Falcon Castle in nearby Ballina. Errew House was used as a fishing hotel from 1920 until 1948.

Great care was taken during the conversion to retain many of the mansion's original features. Victorian-style tiling features in the bathrooms, en suites and hallways, along with decorative plaster plaques and high skirting boards. The kitchens are fully-equipped, with washer/dryers, hobs, ovens and fridge/ freezers.

Errew House is 1.5 miles from the village of Laherdane; Ballina is 10 miles and Castlebar 20 miles away. Knock Airport is a 45-minute drive and has direct flights to London.
