Old Connaught House, at Rathmichael, near Bray, Co Wicklow, once the former home of Lord and Lady Plunkett among others, is to be converted to accommodate new apartments which go on the market today at prices from £250,000. Ross McParland in Bray is the selling agent for the developers, Townpark Estates.
Standing on eight acres, the original house will be converted into 25 apartments with a further 18 units in a new adjoining building designed to blend in with the period house. The units range in size from 785 sq ft to 990 sq ft and with the exception of one unit, all have two bedrooms. Prices range from around £250,000 to £300,000.
The house is approached along a tree-lined avenue from the Ferndale Road. The landscaped formal gardens, which include an all-weather tennis court, water features and sculptures, dominate most of the grounds.
The original entrance hallway is being restored with a hand-crafted staircase, mosaic tiled floor and decorative plastered ceiling.
The inner hallway and main communal areas incorporate distinctive period floor coverings, wall finishes and lighting.
The individual apartments echo this design. Kitchens have black granite worktops and drainer. Ceramic wall tiling in the kitchens compliment the decor. The main living areas are open-plan.
