Fancy a penthouse in Santry? That prospect may soon be available if developer Niall Langan of Margrove gets planning permission for a large apartment development in the grounds of Larch Hill, on Oscar Traynor Road. Larch Hill was for many years the home of the former Bank of Ireland governor, Mark Hely-Hutchinson, whose other claim to fame is that he was the first jockey to ride and lose on Arkle. Last June, he hit the jackpot when he sold the villa-style house on 16.5 acres for £9.7 million. His architects at the time advised interested developers that the part of the land zoned for housing could accommodate up to 250 homes - about 19 per acre. Mr Langan is going for a different type of development, opting for 330 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, maisonettes and duplex units. He also plans to convert the listed house into four apartments and to build a gate lodge at the entrance. Residents will have the use of an underground car-park if the Fingal planners give the green light.
